Class of '79 - "I had Mrs. Moran, Ms. Booklund and Ms.
Ganas. I am now sending my two sons through St. Pius and the ALL
mysteriously decided to retire before either of my boys got to 1st
grade. How did they remember from way back then?"
Class of '82 - "One of my favorite memories of St.
Pius was burying a time capsule at the corner of Westmore and Madison with all
of my class and planting a tree on top of it. Can't wait until they dig
up those memories!"
"My favorite memory of St. Pius is the May Procession
honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary."
Class of '82 - "The time capsule with Mr. Cronquist.
Square dancing with Mr. Carlson. Art class with Mrs. Donohue. Performing
in Mrs. Senese's Spring Musical. Winning Honorable Mention at the
Science Fair.... All the track and field days! The cemetery on
Outdoor Ed. The 8th grade dance (we were the 1st class to have
one)."
Class of '72 - "My favorite memory of my days at St.
Pius is the gym shows with Mr. Marciani. From the flying ladders,
tumblers and gymnasts, square dancers, unicyclists, band performances and
clown acts, it was as much fun to watch as it was to participate. Every
student from 1st to 8th grade was involved in some way. Mr. Marciani was
a creative and forward thinking teacher with a lot of energy. Those
shows were the highlight of every year for a lot of us."
"My six siblings and I attended St. Pius from the fall
of 1964 until the spring of 1989, and my mom taught there for at least 15
years. We loved St. Pius. My favorite memories were the 'Circus'
shows that the gym and music teacher - Bob Marcianti - used to organize.
We would put together dance routines, and jump on the trampoline
equipment. I remember Mike Carlson moving the desks and doing a
cartwheel to show us how an amoeba moved in sixth grade science and Miss Ganas
catching kids chewing gum. I remember Science Fair with Rick Cronquist,
cheerleading for the boys' basketball games and our sixth grade
newspaper. In the early years, I remember the big snow storm and coming
to school on a sled (1967) and many of the nuns. I remember the farm
next door which became West Suburban Bank, and making up stories about the
farmer. We also feared Monsignor Wagner, who was tall and quiet. I
still remember marching for our 8th grade graduation from the back of the
church. Each year, I still get together with about six of my Pius
friends."
Class of '69 - "Aside from the farmland, I can
remember when Mass was said in Latin, the altar was turned around and the
Social Center was being constructed. My favorite memories have to be the
May Crowning in church, and the parish variety shows in the early
'70s."
Class of '66 - "My favorite memory of St. Pius is Mr.
Hornbeck's 6th grade class when we had to do 'flying buttresses' if we did
something wrong in class. It was unforgettable punishment! He
never touched us, however it was very effective in getting us to behave in
class."
"Making sure the doors were closed to keep the
chickens from the farm next door from coming down the hall; watching the
farmer plow the field with his team of horses; being the first 6th grade, 7th
grade, 8th grade and first graduation."
Class of '72 - "My favorite St. Pius memory was a tie
between Mr. Marcianti's circus (I learned how to juggle) and Mrs. Trezza's
entire 4th grade year. She took us on lots of field trips."
Class of '75 - "One of my favorite memories actually
started before I was a student there. My mom was the librarian at St.
Pius and she would bring me with her. I was around 4 years old, and
would bring my Barbies or paper dolls to play with. My older brothers
and sisters would come to the library with their class so I got to see them
during the day. I also have fond memories of the Stunt & Tumbling
Show, and square dancing with Mr. Carlson singing 'Carry Me Back to Old
Virginiee'. Remember when he wore the tutu? You can't make this
stuff up."
"For several weeks before Christmas, the entire school
gathered together and sang Christmas carols. It was beautiful. I
also loved the school May Procession, daily Mass and eating breakfast at
school so we could go to Communion, and Sister Myra."
